Chapter 3

Eve deceived

3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any other beast of the field which Yehovah had made. And he said to the woman, Is it true, has Eloheem said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
3:2 And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden;
3:3 But the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, Eloheem has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, or you die.
3:4 And the serpent said to the woman You shall not surely die:
3:5 For Eloheem does know that in the day You eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be like Eloheem, knowing good and evil.

Fall of Man

3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that the tree was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desirable to make one wise, she took the fruit, and ate, and gave it to her husband with her; and he ate.
3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made girdles.
3:8 And they heard the voice of Yehovah Eloheem walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presents of Yehovah Eloheem amongst the trees of the garden.
3:9 And Yehovah Eloheem called to Adam, and said to him, Where are you?
3:10 And he said, I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked: and hid myself.
3:11 And he said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, that I commanded you to not eat?
3:12 And the man said, The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.
3:13 And Yehovah Eloheem said to the woman, What is this that you Has done? And the woman said, the serpent deceived me, and I ate.

The curse

3:14 And Yehovah Eloheem said to the serpent, Because you has done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life:
3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel.
3:16 To the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in sorrow you shall bear children; and your desire shall be toward your husband, and he shall rule over you.
3:17 And to Adam he said, Because you listened to the voice of your wife, and has eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, you shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake: in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of it your life;
3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to the; and you shall eat the herb of the field;
3:19 In sweat of your face shall you eat bread, till you return to the ground; for out of it was you taken: for dust you are, and to dust shall you return.
3:20 And Adam called his wife's name Chavah (Eve = living); because she was the mother of all living.
3:21 To Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

Expulsion from the garden

3:22 And Yehovah Eloheem said, Behold the man is become as one of Us, to know good and evil; and now, unless he put for his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever;
3:23 And Yehovah Eloheem sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground out of which he was taken.
3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim's and a flaming sword which whirled around to guard the way of the tree of life.
