Ezekiel Chapter 9

A vision showing how some are spared and the rest destroyed


9:1 He cried in my ears with a loud voice, saying, Bring those appointed over the city close, even every man with his weapon of destruction in his hand.
9:2 And, see, six men came from the roadדֶּרֶךְ

of the Upper Gate, which lies toward the north, and every man had a sledgehammer in his hand; but one man among them was clothed in linen, with a scribe’s inkhorn at his lions: and they went in, and stood beside the Copper Altar.
9:3 Then the glory of the Elohimאֱלֹהָי
Pronounced:’ĕlōhê In Hebrew grammatical construct is a way of connecting noun-noun pairs. 9:4 And YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

said to him, Go through the middle of the city, through the middle of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלַם

9:5 Then He said to the others in my earshot, Go ya’ll after him through the city, and strike: don’t let your eye spare, or don’t have compassion:
9:6 Kill old and young, both maidens, and little children, and women you will slaughter them all: but don’t approach any man on whom is the mark. Begin at My Sanctuary. Then they began with the elders who were in front of the Temple.

9:8 And it so happened, while they were killing them, and I remained and I fell on my face, and cried out, and said, Alas Adonaiהָאָדוֹן

is exceedingly great, and the land is full of bloodshed, and the city full of injustice: because they have said, YAHWEH יְהֹוָה
