Habakkuk Chapter 2

Judgement of the Chaldeans for their many sins

2:1 I will stand on my guard, and take place at the siege, and will wait to see what He will say to me, and what I shall answer when I am reprimanded.
2:2 And YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

answered me, and said, Write the vision, and clarify it on tablets, so that reader may
read it swiftly.
2:3 Because there is another vision about an appointed time, but
it shall speak of the end , and not deceive: though it delays, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not delay.
2:4 See, his soul is defiant it is skeptical in him: but the righteous shall live by his faith.
2:5 Yea also, because he acts treacherously by wine, he is an arrogant man, doesn’t stay at home, who expands his desire like Sheolשְׁאוֹל

, and is like death, and can’t be satisfied, He gathers
all nations to himself , and assembles all of the people to himself:
2:6 Shall all these not take up a parable against him, and a mocking song regarding him? And say, Woe to him that accumulates that [what] is not his! how long? and to him that load himself with heavy debts!
2:7 Shall
those rise up suddenly, and those shall shake you awake, that shall persecute you, and you shall be for plunder for them?
2:8 Because you have plundered many nations, all the rest of the people shall plunder you; because of men’s blood (bloods), and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that live in it.
2:9 Woe to him that gains evil profit for his house, that he may set his nest up high, that he may be delivered from the grasp of evil!
2:10 You have consulted shame for your by house to cutting off many people, and have sinned against your soul.
2:11 For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and
the splinter shall answer out of the beam.
2:12 Woe to him that builds a town with bloodshed, and establishes a city with iniquity!
2:13 Look, is it not for YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

of hosts that the people shall labor for fire, and the nations shall weary themselves for nothing?
2:14 Because the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

2:15 Woe to him that gives his neighbor a drink, pouring out your wineskin to him, and making him drunk too, so that you may look on their nakedness!
2:16 You are filled with shame instead of glory:
you too shall drink , and become confounded: the cup of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

‘s the right hand is turned on you, and vomit of shame shall cover your glory.
2:17 Because the violence of Lebanon shall engulf you, and the destruction by [your] animals, shall make them afraid, because of men’s blood [spilt by you] and the violence of the land, of the city, and of all those living in it.
2:18 What profits the carved image that its maker has craved the molten image a teacher of lies, that its maker should trusts in it, to make mute idols?
2:19 Woe to him that says to wood, Awake; to the mute stone, Get up, Shall it teach? See, it is covered over with gold and silver, but there is no breath at all inside of it.
2:20 But YAHWEH יְהֹוָה
