Joel declares God’s judgements


1:1 The word of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה
Hebrew Yəhōwā, one vocalization of the Tetragrammaton יהוה‎ (YHWH), the proper name of the God of Israel in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. Exhortation to observance


1:2 Y’all hear this, old men, and listen, all y’all inhabitants of the land. Has this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
1:3 Tell y’all your sons about it, and let your sons tell their sons, and their sons another generation.
1:4 What was left by the cutter the swarming locust ate; and that left by the swarming locust, the locust larvae ate; and was left by the locust larvae the stripping locust ate.
1:5 Awake, y’all drunkards, and weep; and howl, all y’all wine drinkers, because over the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.
1:6 Because a nation is come upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth [are] the teeth of a lion, and it has the jaw teeth of a lioness.
1:7 He has laid my vine waste, and splintered my fig tree: he has made it clean bare, and threw [it] away; its the branches grow white.
1:8 Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
1:9 The food offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

1:10 The field is wasted, the land mourns; for the grain is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languishes.
1:11 Y’all be ashamed, O y’all farmers; howl, O y’all vine dressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field has perished.
1:12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree droops; [the] pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are dried up: because joy is dried up from the sons of men.
1:13 Gird yourselves, and mourn, y’all priests: howl, y’all ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, y’all ministers of my Elohimאלֹהֵי
In Hebrew grammatical construct is a way of connecting noun-noun pairs. In english, we use “of”, but in Hebrew there are quite a few ways of doing this. של is usually used in place of “of” in Hebrew, but in this case, we modify the first word, with the suffix “ey” (which is what we do for plural words, which God’s name is in Torah), i.e. God of Abraham becomes Elohim Avraham. also can be of my – See Elohim for more info click here

1:14 Y’all sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land [into] the house of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה
