Zechariah Chapter 13

Jerusalem’s spring of cleansing from idolatry and false prophecy


13:1 On that day there shall be a spring opened to the house of David(/ˈdeɪvɪd/; Biblical Hebrew: דָּוִד‎, romanized: Dāwīḏ, “beloved one”)Historians of the Ancient Near East agree that David probably lived around 1000 BCE. and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for cleansing and for uncleanness.
13:2 And it shall so happen on that day, says YAHWEH יְהֹוָה
Hebrew Yəhōwā, one vocalization of the Tetragrammaton יהוה‎ (YHWH), the proper name of the God of Israel in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. of hosts, that I will eliminate the names of the idols from the land, and they shall not be remembered anymore: and I also will remove the [false] prophets and the unclean spirit from the land.
13:3 And it shall so happen, that when a man shall prophesy [falsely] again, then his father and his mother who gave birth to him shall say to him, you shall not live; because you speak lies in the name of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

: and his father and his mother who gave birth to him shall stab him when he prophesies.
13:4 And it shall so happen on that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed each one of his vision, when he prophesies it; they shall not wear a fur cloak to deceive:
13:5 Rather, he shall say, I am no prophet, I [am] a tiller of the land; for man taught me to keep cattle from my youth.
13:6 And one shall say to him, What are these wounds between your hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was beaten in the house of those who loved me.

A sword turned against enemies


13:7 Awake, O sword, against My shepherd, and against the man that is my associate, says YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

of hosts: strike the shepherd, and let the sheep be scattered: and I will turn My hand on the lesser leaders.
13:8 And it shall so happen, that in all the land, says YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

, two mouths in it shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left in it.
13:9 And I will bring the third through the fire, and will refine them like silver is refined, and will refine them as gold is refined: they shall call on My name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is My people: and they shall say, YAHWEH יְהֹוָה
