Zechariah Chapter 9

Prophecies against neighboring nations

9:1 The burden of the word of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

9:2 And Hamath also will border on it; Tyre, and Sidon, though it is very wise.
9:3 And Tyre built herself a strong hold, and heaped up silver like dust, and fine gold like the mud of the streets.
9:4 Look, YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

will throw her out, and he will strike her wealth with the sea; and she will be consumed with fire.
9:5 Ashkelon will see this and fear; Gaza also will fear in great pain, and Ekron; for the one to who she looked [for protection] has been humiliated; A king will perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon will not be inhabited.
9:6 And a bastard will live in Ashdod, and I will eliminate the pride of the Philistines.
9:7 And I will take away his blood from his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: but the remnant, even he [will be] for our El Haiאלהי

9:8 And I will camp around My house [to protect it] against any army, and from him that passed by, and because of him that returns: and an oppressor will never again pass through them: for now have I seen with My eyes.

Zion is urged to rejoice for the coming of Messiah


9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout for joy, O daughter of Jerusalem: see, your King comes to you: He is righteous, and victorious; a humble man riding on an donkey, and on a colt the foal of a donkey.
9:10 And I will eliminate the chariot from Ephraimאֶפְרַיִם
(/ˈiːfriːəm/;ʾEp̄rayīm, in pausa: אֶפְרָיִם‎ ʾEp̄rāyīm). The Book of Genesis related the name “Ephraim” to the Hebrew root פָּרָה (pārā), meaning “to be fruitful”. This referring to Joseph’s ability to produce children, specifically while in Egypt (termed by the Torah as the land of his affliction). The name Ephraim can therefore be translated as “I will be fruitful”, with the prefix of aleph (א‎) indicating the first person, singular, future tense, Also name for an Israelite tribe. 9:11 Also you, through the blood of your covenant I have sent freed your prisoners out of the pit in which there is no water.

Victory is promised


9:12 Return to the strong hold, ya’ll prisoners of hope: Today too, a second announcement I will return to you;
9:13 I will bend Judah for Me, like a bow with Ephraimאֶפְרַיִם

will be seen over them, and His arrow will go out like the lightning: and Adonaiאֲדֹנָי

of hosts will protect them; and they will devour, and trample the slingshot stones; and they will drink, and make a noise like from wine; and they will be filled like bowls, and as the corners of the altar.
