Isaiah Chapter 28

Ephraim is threatened for pride


28:1 Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim אֶפְרַיִם
(/ˈiːfriːəm/;ʾEp̄rayīm, in pausa: אֶפְרָיִם‎ ʾEp̄rāyīm). The Book of Genesis related the name “Ephraim” to the Hebrew root פָּרָה (pārā), meaning “to be fruitful”. This referring to Joseph’s ability to produce children, specifically while in Egypt (termed by the Torah as the land of his affliction). The name Ephraim can therefore be translated as “I will be fruitful”, with the prefix of aleph (א‎) indicating the first person, singular, future tense, Also name for an Israelite tribe – sometimes used name for the northern kingdom (Hosea or Isaiah). strong and mighty [wind], like a downpour of hail and a destructive storm, like a flood of powerful waters overflowing, He will lay [that crown] to the earth with [His] hand.

28:4 And the fading flower the pleasure of his glory, it is [like] a valley of oil on [his] head,  will be like a fig that ripens before the summer; as soon as a passerby sees it, while it is in his hand he eats it.

28:6 And a Spirit וּלְרוּחַ

The straying scolded


28:7 But they too have stumbled because of wine, and because strong drink have staggered; the priestכֹּהֵן

and the [false] prophet have trespassed because of strong drink, they are corrupted by wine, they have wander because of strong drink; they fumbled in vision, they stumble [in] judgment.
28:8 Because all tables are full of vomit [and] filth, so that there isn’t a single place [clean].
28:9 To whom will he teach knowledge? and to whom will he explain the message? [To] those that are weaned from [mother’s] milk, those taken from the breast?
28:10 Because it is commandment by commandment, commandment by commandment; line by line, line by line; here a little, and there a little:

28:12 To whom he said, Here is the rest, Y’all give
to rest the weary ; and this is the [true] restfulness: but they wouldn’t listen.
28:13 So the word of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

28:14 So hear the word of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

28:19 Whenever it passes through, it will take you; because it will pass through morning after morning, by day and by night: understanding the message will be an object of terror .

Consideration of God’s providence


28:23 Y’all give ear, and hear My voice; listen, and pay attention to My speech.
28:24 Does the farmer plow all day to sow? Do he continually open and harrow his ground?
28:25 When he have leveled its surface, doesn’t he scatter the black caraway, and scatter the cumin, and plant wheat in rows and barley in its proper place, and spelt as the border?
28:26 Because his Elohim אֱלֹהָיו

28:27 Because the black caraway aren’t threshed with a threshing board, or is a wagon wheel rolled over the cumin; but the black caraway are beaten out with a staff, and the cumin with a stick.
28:28  Wheat is crushed for bread; but he doesn’t thresh it forever, or break it with the wheel of his cart, or crush [it with] his horses.
