Isaiah Chapter 47

Lament for Babylon

47:1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon (Iraq), sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for you will no more be called tender and delicate.
47:2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover your locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.
47:3 your nakedness will be uncovered, yes, your shame will be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet you like a man.
47:4 As for our redeemer, YAHWEH יְהֹוָה‎

47:5 Sit you silent, and get you into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for you will no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.
47:6 I was angry with my people, I have polluted my inheritance, and given them into your hand: you didn’t show them mercy; on the ancient have you very heavily laid your yoke.
47:7 And you said, I will be a lady forever: so that you didn’t lay these things to your heart, neither did remember the latter end of it.
47:8 So hear now this, you that are given to pleasures, that lives carelessly, that say in your heart, I am, and no one else beside me; I will not sit as a widow, neither will I know the loss of children:
47:9 But these two things will come to you in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they will come on you in their perfection for the multitude of your sorceries, and for the great abundance of your enchantments.
47:10 Because you have trusted in your wickedness: you have said, no one sees me. your wisdom and your knowledge, it has perverted you; and you have said in your heart, I am, and no one else beside me.
47:11 So will evil come on you; you will not know from where it rises: and mischief will fall on you; you will not be able to put it off: and desolation will come on you suddenly, which you will not know.
47:12 Stand now with your enchantments, and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth; if so be you will be able to profit, if so be you may prevail.
47:13 you are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save you from these things that will come on you.
47:14 Look, they will be like straw; the fire will burn them; they will not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there will not be a coal to warm at, or fire to sit before it.
47:15 So will they be to you with whom you have labored, even your merchants, from your youth: they will wander everyone to his quarter; no one will save you.
