An exhortation to repentance


2:1 Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together, O nation without desire;
2:2 Before the
decree is born, the day will pass like the chaff, before the burning anger of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

Judgements on various nations


2:4 Because Gaza will be forsaken, and Ashkelon a wasteland: They will drive out Ashdod at midday, and Ekron will be uprooted.
2:5 Woe to the inhabitants of the sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites! the word of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

2:6 And the sea coast will be pastures and meadows of shepherds, and folds for flocks.
2:7 And the coast will be a portion for the remainder of the house of Judah; on which they will graze: In the houses of Ashkelon will they lie down in the evening: for YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

2:10 They will have in place of their pride, because they have cursed and boasted over the people of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

[will be] frightening to them: for He will make all the gods of the earth feeble; and men will worship Him, each man from his place, all the islands of the nations.
2:12 Ya’ll too, O Ethiopians, ya’ll [will] be killed by My sword.
2:13 And He will stretch out His hand towards the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a wasteland, and dry like the desert.
2:14 And flocks will lie down in the middle of it, all the animals of the nations: both the owls and the hedgehog will lodge in the capitals of its pillars; [their] voice will sing out in the window; desolation will be in the door way; for He will remove the cedar work.
2:15 This is the triumphant city that lives in security, that said in her heart, I [am], and there is no [other]: How did it become a desolation, a resting place for animals! Everyone that passes by her will whistle, and wave his hand.
