Lamentations of Zion


4:1 How the gold has lost its luster! How the finest gold has changed! Sacred stones of the sanctuary lie scattered at every street corner.
4:2 The precious sons of Zionצִיּוֹן

4:3 Even jackals will offer the breast to nurse their young ones: the daughter of my people has become cruel, like the ostriches in the desertבַּמִּדְבָּר

4:4 The tongue of the nursing child sticks to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children beg for bread, no one gives it to them.
4:5 Those who feasted extravagantly lie desolate in the streets: those who were brought up in scarlet clothing embrace garbage piles.
4:6 Because of the offense of the daughter of my people is greater than the sin of Sodomסְדֹם

4:7 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, the beauty of their form was like sapphire:
4:8 Their appearance has become blacker than a coal; they are not recognized in the streets: their skin sticks to their bones; it has become dried up like wood.
4:9 It’s better that they are killed with the sword than they that are killed by hunger: because they pine away, stricken, deprived
of the produce of the field.
4:10 The hands of the compassionate women have boiled their own children: they became their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
4:11 YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

has vented his fury; He has poured out His burning anger, and has started a fire in Zionבְּצִיּוֹן
