Amos Chapter 1

Judgemnts on Syria, Philistia, Edom and Ammon

1:1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdsmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam/ˌdʒɛrəˈboʊ.əm/; Hebrew: יָרָבְעָם‎ Yārŏḇə‘ām; Greek: Ἱεροβοάμ, romanized: Hieroboám Reign 931 – 910 BC Died 910 BC the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
1:2 And he said, YAHWEH יְהֹוָה‎

1:4 But I will send a fire to the house of Hazael(/ˈheɪziəl/; Biblical Hebrew: חֲזָאֵל or חֲזָהאֵל, romanized: Ḥăzāʾēl;[1] Old Aramaic: 𐡇𐡆𐡀𐡋, romanized: ḥzʾl, from the triliteral Semitic root h-z-y, “to see”; his full name meaning, “El/God has seen” Reign 842–796 BC, which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad.
1:5 I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holds the scepter from the Beth-Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity to Kir, says YAHWEH יְהֹוָה‎

1:8 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holds the scepter from Ashkelon, and I will turn my hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, says Adonaiאֲדֹנָי

The region is bounded in the west by the Jordan River, in the north by the deep ravine of the river Yarmouk and the region of Bashan, and in the southwest by what were known during antiquity as the “plains of Moab”, with no definite boundary to the east., that they might enlarge their border:
1:14 But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces of it, with a war-cry in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:
1:15 And their king shall go into captivity, he and his rulers together, says YAHWEH יְהֹוָה‎
