Amos Chapter 6

Desolation shall the wantonness of Israel


6:1 Woe to those that are at ease in Zionבֵּית לֶחֶם

, and those secure in the mountain of Samaria, which are called the foremost of the nations, and the house of Israel is among them!
6:2 Y’all cross over to Calneh and see; and
y’all go from there to the great Hamath : then go down to Gath of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּים

: [Are they] better than these kingdoms? Is their border greater than your border?
6:3 Y’all who spurn the evil day, and while you convene sessions of injustice;
6:4 who lie on ivory couches, and stretch out on their beds, eating the lambs out of the flock, and the bull calves out of the inside the stall;
6:5 That sing along the lute, and invent
instruments of song for themselves, like David(/ˈdeɪvɪd/; Biblical Hebrew: דָּוִד‎, romanized: Dāwīḏ, “beloved one”)Historians of the Ancient Near East agree that David probably lived around 1000 BCE.;
6:6 Who drink wine in bowls, and they anoint with the best of oils: but they aren’t pained by the destruction of Josephיוֹסֵף

6:7 So now shall they go into exile with the first of the exiles, and the feast of the arrogant will cease .

6:10 And his kinsman shall lift him up, and he that burns him, to bring out the bones from the house, and [he] shall say to that [one] at the far end of the house, Are there [any] still with you? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold your tongue: because no one shall mention of the name of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

6:12 Do horses run on a rock? can one plow [there] with cattle? for y’all have turned justice into hemlock, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood:
6:13 Y’all who are rejoicing over nothing, [you] who say, Haven’t we taken power for ourselves with our own strength?
6:14 But, look, I will raise
a nation up against you, O house of Israel, says YAHWEH יְהֹוָה
