Hosea Chapter 4

God’s judgments on the people for sins

4:1 Hear the word of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

has a quarrel with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of Elohimאֱלֹהִים

in the land.
4:2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, increase, and blood touches blood.
4:3 Because of this the land mourns, and everyone that lives in it shall be weak, with the animals of the field, and with the birds of the sky; yes, even the fish of the sea also shall be removed.
4:4 Yet let no man strive with nor judge another. because your people [are] like a
priest pleaded with.
4:5 So you shall fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with you in the night, and I will cut off your mother.
4:6 My people are cut off for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected the knowledge, I will also rejected you from being priest to Me. Seeing you have forgotten the Torahתּוֹרָה‎

4:7 As they were increased, so they sinned against Me: so will I change their glory into shame.
4:8 They eat up the sin of My people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.
4:9 And it will be, like people, like priest: and I will visit them for their ways, and return them their deeds.
4:10 For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit harlotry, and shall not increase: because they have ceased to take heed to YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

4:11 Harlotry and wine and new wine take away the heart.
4:12 My people ask advice at their wooden [idols], and their rod declares to them. For the spirit of harlotry has led [them] astray, and they have fornicated from under their Elohimאֱלֹהִים

4:13 They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and burn incense on the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinth, because the shade of it is good: So your daughters shall be harlots, and your brides shall commit adultery.
4:14 I will not punish your daughters when they fornicate, nor your spouses when they commit adultery. Because the [men] themselves are separated with harlots, and they sacrifice with temple prostitutes: so the people [who] doesn’t understand are thrust down.

Warning to Judah


4:15 Though y’all, Israel, play the harlot, don’t let  Judah become guilty. And don’t come to Gilgal, nor go up to Bethaven (or house of idols), or swear, as YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

4:16 Because Israel rebellious like a stubborn heifer. Now YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

will feed them like a lamb in a large place.
4:17 Ephraim [is] united with idols: let him alone.
4:18 Their drink is sour: they are continually fornicating: her rulers dearly love shame.
4:19 The wind has bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
