Jewish Marriage (A Halakhic Ethic)
The Husband has ten essential obligations. Briefly, they are as follows:- to sustain his wife
- to provide adequate clothing
- to provide conjugal visitation
- to fulfill the essential ketuvah obligations
- to pay her medical bills
- to redeem her if she is kidnapped
- upon her death, to ensure her proper burial, assuming the expenses for the same
- to ensure that she will be sustained from his estate and live in his dwelling should he predecease her
- to provide for the maintenance of her daughters, in the event of his death, until they reach maturity or marry and
- to ensure the right of her sons to her ketuvah settlement, after her passing, over and above the inheritance they would share with brothers from the husband’s subsequent marriage.
