A Warning to wisdom
7:1 My son, guard my words, and store up my commandments with you.
7:2 Guard my commandments, and live; and my teaching like the pupil of your eye.
7:3 Tie them on your fingers, press them on the tablet of your heart.
7:4 Say to wisdom, you are my sister; and call understanding your friend:
7:5 So that they may protect you from a forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words.
7:6 Because at the window of my house I looked through my lattice,
7:7 And saw among the fools, I observed among the youths, a young man lacked understanding,
7:8 Passing through the street near her corner; and he walked the way to her house,
7:9 As dusk turns into evening, in the blackness of night and darkness:
7:10 And, see, there met he a woman dressed like a harlot, and heart of cunning.
7:11 (She is loud and stubborn; her feet don’t stay at home:
7:12 Now is she outside, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every corner.)
7:13 So she caught him, and kissed him, and with a brazen-faced said to him,
7:14 I had to bring peace offerings with me; today I have paid my vows.
7:15 That is why I came out to meet you, and now I’ve found you!
7:16 I have decked my bed with covers of tapestry, the carved bed poles are hung with fine Egyptian linen.
7:17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
7:18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us rejoice with acts of love.
7:19 Because the husband isn’t at home, he is gone a distant journey:
7:20 He’s taken a money bag with him, and and won’t be back till the moon is full.
7:21 She sways him with her abundant sophistication she caused him to yield, enticing him with her seductive lips.
7:22 He follows her suddenly, like an cow goes to the slaughter, or like a fool to be punished in the stocks;
7:23 Till an arrow spits his liver; like a bird hurries to the snare, and unaware that it’s for his life.
7:24 So now, sons, listen to me, and pay attention to what I am saying.
7:25 Don’t let your heart turn to her ways, don’t stray into her paths.
7:26 Because she has felled many victims: yes, the number of her destroyed is huge.
7:27 Her house is the wayדַּרְכֵי
