Zechariah Chapter 7

An inquiry about fasting


7:1 And it so happened in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

7:2 Sherezer as well as Regemmelech, and their men had sent a message to Bethelבֵּית אֵל

7:4 Then came the word of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

, saying, When ya’ll fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh [months], even those seventy years, did ya’ll fast for My honor?
[Was it] for Me?
7:6 And when ya’ll ate, and when ya’ll drank, wasn’t it ya’ll who were the eaters and ya’ll who were drinking?
7:7 Aren’t these words which YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

proclaimed by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and prosperous, and the cities of it around her, when men settled in the south and the lowlands?

Zechariah tells the real reason for captivity


7:8 And the word of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

7:10 And don’t oppress the widow, or the fatherless, the stranger, or the poor; and don’t devise in your hearts evil against one another .
7:11 But they refused to listen, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, so that they couldn’t hear.
7:12 Yea, they made their hearts like iron rather than hearing the teaching and the words of Torahתּוֹרָה‎
