Ezra Chapter 9

Affinity with strangers mourned


9:1 Now at the end of these things , the leaders came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priestsכֹּהֲנִים

seed have mixed themselves with the people of those lands.  Yes, the hand of the leaders and overseers have been most prominent in this treachery.
9:3 And when I heard this thing, I ripped my clothes and my robe, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonished.
9:4 Then
everyone who trembled at the words of the Elohim of Israel אֱלֹהֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל

9:5 And at the evening sacrifice I got up up from my fasting (or affliction); and having ripped
my clothes and my robe, I fell on my knees, and spread out my hands to YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

: because our iniquities have increased over [our] head, and our guiltiness has grown up to the heavens.
9:7 Since the days of our fathers
we [have  been] in a great guilt until this day. And for our iniquities , our kings, and our priestsכֹּהֲנִים

have we been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a plunder, and to shame of faces, to this day.
9:8 And now for a little (moment) time grace has been shown from YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

9:9 Because we were slaves; yet our Elohim אֱלֹהֵינוּ

, what could we say after this? because we have forsaken Your commandments,
9:11 Which you have commanded by Your servants the prophets, saying, The land to which ya’ll go to possess it, is an unclean land with the impurity of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.
9:12 So now don’t give your daughters to their sons, don’t take their daughters to your sons, or seek their peaceשָׁלוֹם

or their wealth forever: so that ya’ll may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your sons forever.
9:13 And after all that is come on us for our evil deeds, and for our great guilt, since You our Elohim אֱלֹהֵינוּ

has held the rod our iniquities, and have given us such an escape as this;
9:14 Shall we again break Your commandments, and intermarry with the people of these abominations? Would
You not  be angry with us till you had crushed us, until there is no remnant nor survivor?
