Job entreats God’s favor
14:1 Man that is born of a woman is short of days and full of trouble.
14:2 He comes forth like a flower, and withers: he also flees like a shadow, and doesn’t stand.
14:3 Also do You open Your eyes upon such [a one], and bring me into judgment with You?
14:4 Who gives a clean thing out of an unclean? No one!
14:5 Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with you, you have appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
14:6 look away from him, that he may rest, till he shall enjoy his day as a hireling.
Job waits for death
14:7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its shoot of won’t cease.
14:8 Though its root becomes old in the earth, and the stump of it dies in the ground;
14:9 Yet at the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth branches like a plant.
14:10 But man dies, and withers away: yea, man dies, and where has he?
14:11 As the waters go from the sea, and the river wastes away and dries up:
14:12 So man lies down, and doesn’t rise: till the heavens are no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
14:13 What will you hide me in Sheolשְׁאוֹל

14:14 If a man dies, will he live again? all the days of my warfare will I wait, till my change comes.
14:15 You shall call, and I will answer You: You will long to the work of Your hands.
Results of sin
14:16 For now You number my steps: don’t you watch over my sin?
14:17 My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and You cover over my iniquity.
14:18 And surely a falling mountain crumbles to nothing, and the rock is moved out of its place.
14:19 The waters wear the stones: its outpouring wash the dust of the earth; and You destroyed the hope of man.
14:20 You overpower him forever, and he passes: You change his expression, and send him away.
14:21 His sons come to honor, and he doesn’t know; they fall, but he doesn’t mark it.
14:22 But his flesh is pained within him, and his soul mourns over him.
