Joseph’s dreams

37:1 And Jacobיַעֲקֹב

lived in the land of his father’s travels, in the land of Canaan.
37:2 These [are] the generations of Jacobיַעֲקֹב

37:3 Now Israel loved Josephיוֹסֵף

more than all his children, because he [was] the son of his old age and he made him a robe of [reaching to] the feet.
37:4 And when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.

dreamed a dream, and he told [it] his brothers and they hated him still more.
37:6 And he said to them, Now hear this dream which I have dreamed
37:7 For, look, we [were] binding sheaves in the field, and, see, my sheaf got up, and stood
upright; and, see, your sheaves came around, and bowed to my sheaf.
37:8 And his brothers said to him, Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you really rule over us? And they hated him still more for his dreams, and for his words.
37:9 And he dreamed still another dream, and told it his brothers, and said, Look, I have dreamed another dream. And, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars were bowing themselves to me.
37:10 And he told [it] to his father, and to his brothers and his father scolded him, and said to him, What [is] this dream that you have dreamed ? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow down ourselves to the earth to you?
37:11 And his brothers were jealous of him; but his father paid attention to the word.
37:12 And his brothers went to feed their father’s flock in Shechem.
37:13 And Israel said to Josephיוֹסֵף

, Aren’t your brothers feeding [the flocks] in Shechem ? Come, and I will send you to them. And he said to him, Here [am I].
37:14 And he said to him, Go, see the welfare of your brothers, and the welfare of the flocks ; and bring word back to me. So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
37:15 And a man found him, and, look, [he was] wandering in the field and the man asked him, saying, What do you look for?
37:16 And he said, I look for my brothers. Please tell me, where they are feeding [their flocks].
37:17 And the man said, They have left here; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Josephיוֹסֵף

37:18 And when they saw him from a distance. And before he came near to them, they conspired against him to kill him.
37:19 And they said one to another, Look, this master of dreams is coming.
37:20 Come now, and let us kill him, and throw him into one of the pits, and we will say, Some evil beast has devoured him and we shall see what will become of his dreams.

out of his coat, [his] long coat [reaching] to his feet;
37:24 And they took him, and threw him into a pit and the pit [was] empty, [there was] no water in it.
37:25 And they sat down to eat bread and they raised up their eyes and looked, and, saw, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead or Gilad (/ˈɡɪliəd/; Hebrew: גִּלְעָד Gilʿāḏ) is the ancient, historic, biblical name of the mountainous northern part of the region of Transjordan. tore his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.
37:35 And all his sons and all his daughters got up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted ; and he said, Because I will go down to Sheolשְׁאוֹל ‎

37:36 And the Midianites sold him into Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, the cheif of the executioners.
