Abram’s vision

15:1 After these things the word of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה
Hebrew Yəhōwā, one vocalization of the Tetragrammaton יהוה‎ (YHWH), the proper name of the God of Israel in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abramאַבְרָם

I [am] your shield, [and] your reward will increase greatly.

said, Adonai אֲדֹנָי
Hebrew pronunciation: [ʾăḏōnāy], lit. transl. My Lords, Pluralis majestatis taken as singular) is the possessive form of adon (“Lord”), along with the first-person singular pronoun enclitic. As with Elohim, Adonai’s grammatical form is usually explained as a plural of majesty.For more info click here

, what will you give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house [is] this Eliezer of Damascus ?
15:3 And Abramאַבְרָם

said, Observe, to me you have given no offspring and, lo, one born in my house is my heir.

Offspring are promised


15:4 And, observe, the word of YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

[came] to him, saying, This shall not be your heir ; but he that shall come out of your own bowels shall be your heir.
15:5 And he brought him out abroad, and said, Look now toward the heavens, and tell the stars, if you be able to number them and he said to him, So shall your offspring be.
15:6 And he believed in YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

15:7 And he said to him, I [am] YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

that brought you out of land of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it.
15:8 And he said, Adonai אֲדֹנָי

, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
15:9 And he said to him, Take me a heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
15:10 And he took to him all these, and divided them in the middle, and laid each piece one against one another but the birds divided he did not.
15:11 And when the birds came down on the carcasses, Abramאַבְרָם

A vision


15:12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abramאַבְרָם

; and, a horror of great darkness fell on him.
15:13 And he said to Abramאַבְרָם

, Know of a surety that your offspring shall be a stranger in a land [that is] not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years ;
15:14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15:15 And you shall go to your fathers in peaceשָׁלוֹם

; you shall be buried in a good old age.
15:16 But in the fourth generation they shall come here again for the iniquity of the Amorites [is] not yet full.
15:17 And it so happened, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, see a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
15:18 In the same day YAHWEH יְהֹוָה

15:19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
15:20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaimרְפָאִים
